Note on Husband: Arthur Ebenezer COOPER - shared note

In 1881 the family were living at 67, Asylum Road, Old Kent Road, Peckham

[RG11/0691/16/25]

"Arthur came to Australia (1914 - 18) ... lived at Graham Road, Mitcham, originally a lavender field.

All the children were born there.

At that time Thomas Harvey and Sons were feather dressers and drycleaners and French glove cleaners.

Between 1914 -18 the business was dissolved and the factory became a munitions factory.

Arthur came to Australia for health reasons - he suffered from 'gastilitous' and lived on boiled fish.

He lived to start with in Sydney.

He mined for a while in Newcastle, NSW, then moved to Queensland, and worked in a dry-cleaning company (Alexanders'), then to a grocery shop, (Marchant's).

His children all went to school in QLD.

However, Ellen, his wife did not seem happy, and wanted to return to England, so in 1927 all except the eldest daughter went back.

Alas, no jobs, so in 1928 they came back to Australia, where he bought several dry-cleaning businesses.

Reg. and Doug argued all the time, and today Cooper's Dry-cleaning is owned by the biggest drycleaners in Australia."

Note on Wife: Ellen Campbell STANBROUGH - shared note

Ellen was a triplet.

Birth date debateable. 1881 census suggests she was born in 1878
