Note on Husband: William EVANS - shared note

After their marriage, Wiliam and Jane appeared to be living at the Wig, where their first three children were born.

By 1837 they had moved to Ty Newydd where they remained until about 1846.

1841 Census:

[HO107/1438/8/21/11]

William, Jane and their children Mary, Margaret, Ann, David and Jane were all at New House [or Ty Newydd] Llangyniew.

It appears that Thomas Hughes and his family emigrated from Dolanog Mills to Racine, Wisconsin, USA in 1846 - therefore we may assume that William Evans moved from Ty Newydd to Dolanog Mills at about this time.

1851 Census:

[HO107/2499/233/3]

William, Jane and their daughters Jane, Catherine, Elizabeth, with Mary and Evan Jones, and their Grandaughter Mary (age 11 months) were all at the Mill Dolanog, along with five servants.

From: Hanes Methodistaeth Trefaldwyn Isaf - gan y Parch. Edward Griffith:

"The oldest man connected to the Old Chapel was Mr. D. Davies, Cae'n y Mynydd Hall, near Sardis, after that, Edward Tomley, Tyisaf, until he moved to Soar: R. Gittins the shop [...] 1860: W. Davies y Wig, Edward Evans y Pass, the last two right up until their death. Hugh Morris, until his departure to Pontrobert; Thomas Hughes the Mill, until his departure to America; W. Evans the Mill and Evan Jones the Mill both until their death. Dolanog Mill has, for a long time until fairly recently been a hospitable and welcoming place for the Ministers of the Word. The most prominent of these, and the most significant with regards to Dolanog in the last century was David Davies, the hall, who was referred to in the Sardis section.

Memorial in Sardis Chapel Cemetery:

"In memory of Jane Relict of William Evans of Dolanog Mill

Who died March 7 1875 aged 68

"Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints"

Also of Elizabeth daughter of the aforesaid William and Jane Evans who died July 23 1892 aged 44

In memory of William Evans Dolanog Mill who died June 18 1851 aged 47 years

also their son David Evans who died Decr 23 1848 aged 11 years"

Note on Wife: Jane OWEN - shared note

1861 Census:

[RG9/4260/40/2]

The widowed Jane now living at the Mill with her daughters Mary, Catherine and Elizabeth; her Son-in-law, Evan Jones, and her grandchildren, William, Margaret and Annie.

1871 Census:

[RG10/5628/?/2]

Dolanog Mill Evan and Mary, their children William and Annie, Mary's mother, Jane Evans, and (probably) Mary's sister, Elizabeth Evans, who was visiting.

Text From Source: DOLANOG SUDDEN DEATH.
On Monday, December 3, an inquest was held at the Vicarage, Dolanog, before W. A. Pughe, Esq., coroner, and a jury, of whom Mr. Rees Davies, Dolwar Hall, was foreman, on the body of Catherine Ann Rowlands, 67 years of age.
Richard Jones said he was the vicar of Dolanog parish. He identified the body as that of the deceased, who had resided with him for the last seven veeks. About ten o'clock on Saturday night, after a supper of oatmeal porridge, deceased went to her bed- room, but soon alarmed the family by cries of Oh Oh He ran into the room, and gave her some brandy and water, but without effect. He then ran to a neighbour, Evan Jones, a miller, who sent his servant for Dr. Evans, of Llanfair, who arrived about three o'clock. Deceased had then been dead about four hours. She was subject to rheumatism, but had not been attended by any doctor during her stay there.
Ann Jones said she was a servant in the employment of last witness. About ten o'clock on Saturday night, hearing a scream, she ran into the room of deceased, and found her just falling down. She took hold of her, put her on the bed, and called her master. She spoke a few words before she died.
Mary Jones said she was the wife of Evan Jones, of The Mill, Dolanog. About ten o'clock on Saturday Mr. Jones came to her house, and asked her to go to the Vicarage, and said that Mrs Rowlands will. When she (witness) reached the Vicarage deceased was nearly dead. She felt her pulse, but she appeared lifeless. The jury returned a verdict of Died by the visitation of God."

Baner ac Amserau Cymru - 13th January 1904

Marwolaeth Mrs Jones, Felin.
Boreu ddydd Sadwrn diweddaf collodd yr ardal hon un o’i chymmeriadau mwyaf adnabyddus yn marwolaeth Mrs Mary Jones, y Felin.
Nid oedd yn mwynhau iechyd da er’s rhai blynyddoedd bellach; ac yn ddi weddar byddai yn gorfod ildio i’w gwely.
Tua mis yn ol cafodd anwyd, nes i’r bronchitis, ei hen elyn, gryfhau ei afael ynddi, a’i chaethiwo yn gyfangwbl i’w gwely y pythefnos diweddaf, nes y gorphenodd ei gyrfa boreu ddydd Sadwrn diweddaf, Baner ac Amserau Cymru - 13th January 1904
yn 73ain mlwydd oedd.
Yr oedd yn aelod gyda’r Methodistiaid Calfinaidd, a’i thy bob amser yn agored i weinidogion y Gair er’s dros hanner cant o fflynyddoedd.
Hanai o deuly oedd yn dal cyssylltiad a Methodistiaeth er sefydliad Methodistiaeth yn y fro.
Yr oedd o duedd garedig a chymdeithasol, a theimlir hir chwithdod ar ei hol.
Gadawodd fab a dwy ferch, a pherthynasau eraill, a llu o gyfeillion, i alaru ar ei hol.
