In the 1881 census, Margarett Hamilton [Smith], her is staying with Jane (Her mother's aunt) and John Harris at 9 Herne Place, along with her future step father, Frederick William Hoadly.

By the 1891 census, she is at 136 Plumstead Road, with her mother, and step father and family.

[RG12/537/22].

 

Her middle name, Hamilton, seems to have been significant to her.

 

In later life she and her husband ran a seaside boarding house at Walton-On-The-Naze in Essex, and it was named Hamilton House.

 

Is it possible that her father's name was Hamilton?

 

There is no concrete evidence for this.

 

Hamilton House was bombed during WW2, and the family later moved to 5 Leopold Villas, Churchfield Road, Walton, and it is there that Frank Snr. died.

 

Often her name is spelled, unusually, as Margarett, which was that of Sarah Jane's Grandmother.
