[GRO] Deaths Mar 1878: GORDON Matilda Louisa 24 Newtown 11b 168

The Lewis Family Bible says:

Matilda Louisa Gordon died February 18th 1878, aged 24

Note on Husband: David George GORDON (1)

Archie Roberts wrote that

"Tilly married a rotter who just killed her of a broken heart".

It has never been revealed what wrong David Gordon did to Tilly, but as she died in 1878, and David is to be found in the 1881 census with a "wife" Fanny (thus far - 2008 - I have found no registered marriage for this couple) ... could this be a clue?

Note on Husband: David George GORDON (2) - shared note

The photo shows Llanllwchaiarn Parish Church where Matilda and David were married.

In 1881 Census there is:

Georgina GORDON Head U Female 22 Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England Forewoman In Mantle Work Room

Elizth. GORDON Mother M Female 55 Brace Well, Shropshire, England No Business

In the Family Bible, she is down as Matilda Louisa, but in the St Catherine House marriage indexes she is listed as Matilda Lewis.

Archie Roberts wrote that

"Tilly married a rotter who just killed her of a broken heart".

Matilda Louisa's wedding was witnessed by Georgina Gordon and Robert Morgan Roberts, her brother.
