Subject : Re - Edith M CROCKER

Since I found out that Susan’s surname was Till Elliott I have established the following: -

John Elliott married Elizabeth Till on 18 October 1855 in Vowchurch. Both were of ‘full age’, he was a bachelor and she was a spinster. Both were servants. John’s father was Joseph Elliott – weaver; Elizabeth’s father was William Till – labourer. Source - marriage certificate.

I have the 1851 census on CD (obtained from the Gloucestershire Family History Society). I found Elizabeth Till 26 of the parish of Berkeley in Gloucester County Jail. Also I found TILL baby girl 1month born in Gloucester County Jail. I am sure this is the Elizabeth Till that married John Elliott and I think that the baby girl was Susan. I have requested a copy of the goal register entry for Elizabeth Till from Gloucestershire Record Office.

Elizabeth Till was baptised on 27 May 1821 in Berkeley, father William Till, mother Susannah – source IGI Index.

William Till married Susannah Peed on 27 October 1816 in Hill in Gloucestershire – source Gloucestershire Marriage Index 1800-1837 produced by GFHS.

A Susannah Till died in the 1849 – I have sent for the death certificate.

To update your records further I have the following:

Edith Maud Crocker was born on 14 January 1880 – birth certificate.

She married Reuben Hurcombe on 16 July 1900 – marriage certificate.

Francis Crocker was born 2 September 1848 – birth certificate.

Francis and Susan married 6 October 1875 – marriage certificate.

Francis died 28 July 1883, occupation Haulier – ‘accidental death from injuries received by being thrown out of a gig’ – source death certificate. Unfortunately no coroner’s records seemed to have survived for Aberdare. I visited The British Newspaper Library, Colindale but didn’t have much luck finding a newspaper local to Aberdare in the 1880s; I could only find a weekly journal.

Best wishes
