Note on Husband: James Bickford HEARD aka Lottwhich Harrington HEARD (1)

James Bickford Heard was born in 1848 to Edward Heard and his second wife Charlotte Conde. In 1873 he took an alias of Lottwhich Harrington, why I have not yet found out. He lived with Elizabeth Hoadly a widow in Leamington Warwickshire. She gave birth to their son Lottwhich Harrington in 1873. In 1874 Lottwhich senior went to Prison for theft. In 1876 Elizabeth gave birth to their second son James Bickford Heard b Leamington Warwickshire. From 1881 the family are living in Herne Hill Lambeth, but James is now with Sophia Hoadly, Elizabeths daughter. His son James Bickford b 1876 is living with him and Sophia while Lottwhich is living with his Mother.

Note on Husband: James Bickford HEARD aka Lottwhich Harrington HEARD (2)

On the 30th June 1874 James Bickford Heard, alias Lottwhich Harrington was up in court for theft. He was a coachman working for Edward Reaston. On 25th May 1874 he received from Herbert Roberts the sum of 18s on account, he handed to his master 10s and kept 8s. The next day he collected from the same person 13s on account, but kept 3s. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 4 months hard labour.

[Sandra Jarrett]

Note on Wife: Sophia HOADLY - shared note

Sophia is a complete mystery, and so far her existence at all is noted from the census.

In 1871, Sophia is living at 16 Park Street, Leamington Priors, Warwickshire, with her mother.

[RG10/3195/1/10]

There is a well-known family story of a Great-Aunt who was a Lady-in-Waiting to a Russian Princess. No-one in the family presently can remember much detail, either of the Aunt's name, or indeed the Princess. Joyce Hoadly (b. 1927), told me that she remembered her father Len speaking of this Aunt, and vaguely thought the name sounded like "Syer". Could she have been this Sophia? Bob Hoadly recalls the Princess being a Princess Seltikov.

I have just found the following on the Internet:

"When Nicholas II, who still was Tsarevich in those days, in October 1890 left for a voyage around the world, he was accompanied by his brother George and the Princes Bariatinsky and Obolensky.

Each one of the Princes shot a tiger in India, which annoyed Nicholas because he didn't manage to shoot anything at all.

The lineage of Obolensky also descends from Grand Duke Michael Vsevolodovich of Chernigov.

The name `Obolensky' originates from the town of Obolensk, in the present district of Kaluga, about 120 miles south-west of Moscow, where in the 13th century Constantin Yuryevich Obolensky inherited land from his father.

Some of the French Obolenskys

Ä the ones that still wish to be addressed as Syatelstvo (Your Serene Highness)

Ä gather yearly during the last weekend of February.

Major-General Prince Vasili Petrovich Obolensky (1780-1834) is the progenitor of the Olkhi branch.

He was the Military Governor of Moscow and married Countess Catharina Mussin-Pushkin (1786-1875), daughter of Alexis Ivanovich Mussin-Pushkin, Supreme Procurator of the Holy Synod and Chairman of the Academy of Fine Arts.

Prince Alexis Dmitrievich Obolensky (1855-1933) succeeded Pobyedonostsev as Supreme Procurator of the Holy Synod in1906.

He also was Senator and Marshall of Nobility of the district of Kozelsk.

On July 16, 1893 he married Princess Elisaveta Saltikov (1868-1957), daughter of Prince Nicholas Ivanovich Saltikov, the Oberhofzeremoniemeister of the Imperial Court, and Princess Anna Sergeevna Dolgoroukov.

I myself am a descendant of the first line of the Gluchovo-branch."

Various pieces of jewellery and two vases are now in the possession of the girls in the Hoadly family, that they were originally given by the Princess to the aunt. It is therefore probable that she was a Hoadly. Since Sophia (so far) appears not to have married, she could be a likely candidate?

Some questionable details on this certificate. Of course the father's true name was James Bickford Heard. He used an alias on this registration [Lottwhich Harrington]. Also the mother was in fact Elizabeth Hoadly but he gives her "new" surname as "Harringtoin". They never married.

Once again, a false name from the father who was, of course, James Bickford Heard but at this registration calls himself Lottwhich. Again, although the mother was formerly Smith, she never married Heard, so was actually Elizabeth (late) Hoadly formerly Smith.
