FATAL BURNING CASES IN SALFORD

Mr. J. F. Price, Deputy Coroner for Salford, held an inquest on Monday morning concerning the death of Elizabeth Deakin, aged 67 years, a widow, who lived at 32, King William-street, Trafford-road, Salford. On the afternoon of New Year's Day the deceased was found in the kitchen with her clothes in flames by two female lodgers. they quickly extinguished the flame, and had her conveyed to the Salford Borough Hospital, where she was found to be suffering from serious burns all over the body. She was in a state of semi-unconsciousness, and soon became totally unconscious and could give no account of the burns. She died on the following morning from the shock consequent on the burns. It is believed that the clothes of the deceased took fire as she was in the act of lighting a paraffin lamp. A verdict of accidental death was returned.

These indexes are divided up into baptisms, marriages and burials. They are all arranged by surname; for marriages, there are two separate lists, one for the husband’s and one for wife’s surname. The lists cover all Church of England churches in and around Wolverhampton during the periods described. In addition, the file relating to burials includes all churches as well as St. Peter’s.
Indexes to some of these registers of baptism, marriage and burial have been compiled by one of our volunteers, Pat Galloway, and are available below. We are extremely grateful to Pat for all her hard work over several years, without which these indexes would not be available.
